We’re geeky, and proud of it.

In case you missed the buzz, we were recently named one of the Best Geek Hotels in the World in 2010 by Hotel Chatter.

We are proud to be the first hotel in the United States to offer an all-access in-room media service, made possible by an Apple Mac Mini in every guest room.

You can now surf the web, view your bill, watch movies, and conduct business on the television in your room, all at the touch of a button.

In-room access will never be the same.

Need further convincing? See for yourself…

More buzz:

“While it’s no longer enough to outfit the hotel biz center with an iMac, it is another thing to put Mac Minis in the guest rooms which is what this Joie De Vivre Hotel in Sacramento has done. The “one-stop media portal,” called Joie Connect, allows guests to connect to the internet so they can check their email, Twitter or Facebook, download music from iTunes and stream movies from Netflix and Hulu. Guests can even order room service and check-out from this system. All rooms at the hotel have Mac Minis and JDV has plans to put more Mac Minis in select hotels by the end of 2010.”
Hotel Chatter, May 25, 2010

“Apple fans will go for the Citizen Hotel in Sacramento, which has installed Mac Minis in guest rooms. The Mini is connected to a flat-panel TV, enabling you to e-mail, stream video from Hulu and Netflix, use Google to help you get acquainted with the city, order room service, and check out when you’re done.”
PC Mag, June 11, 2010

“Hotel Chatter, which published the list to celebrate Geek Pride Day, pointed to the Mac Minis in every room at The Citizen as a big draw to geeks. Joie Connect, as the service is called, “allows guests to connect to the internet so they can check their email, Twitter or Facebook, download music from iTunes and stream movies from Netflix and Hulu,” Hotel Chatter says. Want to take geekiness to the next level? Check in to The Citizen, turn on your Joie Connect and use it to check in on Foursquare. That ought to be worth a badge.”

Let’s get on the map.

In case you missed the article, Yahoo recently named Sacramento one of America’s Top 10 Underrated Cities.

We couldn’t agree more.

Sacramento has so much to offer as a city, and it’s about time we were put on the map as a “must-see” destination. When visitors stay with us, they often ask for suggestions on where to go and what to do while they’re in town. Since we want you to make the most of your Sacramento experience, we’ve created a list of our favorite things to do in the area.

Based on the collaboration of passionate Sacramento-dwelling Citizen Hotel employees, here are a few recommendations for the next time you find yourself in Sactown….

1. Concerts in the Park/Pops in the Park: Because there’s more room to dance when you’re outside.

2. Visit one of the amazing Downtown Restaurants: Dare we say, Grange perhaps?

3. Fill up on some Frozen Yogurt: There’s a shop on almost every corner–we take our frozen yogurt addictions very seriously.

4. Float down the River: Because when it’s 108 degrees outside, there is nothing we would rather do.

5. Check out a Rivercats game: Monday night bingo, fireworks, and more frozen yogurt–need we say more?

6. Visit the Sacramento Zoo: Say hi to the new baby tiger while you’re there (she’s our favorite).

7. Ride bikes along the American River Parkway: Because you have to burn off that frozen yogurt eventually.

8. Check out Second Saturday: Art. Food. Shopping. Go!

9. BBQ at Land Park or McKinley Park: Bring the kiddos….they’ll love it.

10. See a flick at the Crest: You’ll feel like you’re back in 1949.

11. Have breakfast at Tower Cafe or Fox and Goose: Our vote? French toast drowned in syrup. You won’t regret it.

12. Visit the Second Sunday Antique Fair: Find treasures by the dozen.

13. Stock up on fresh food at the Farmer’s Market: Go ahead and buy flowers for yourself too. We won’t judge.

14. Midtown Boutique Shopping: Find one-of-a-kind deals and steals at any of the popular shops in Midtown.

15. Stop by The Candy Barrel in Old Sacramento: Samples, samples, and more samples. Did we mention they give out free samples?

Obviously we could keep going, but we’re not the only Sacramento experts around here. What are your favorite things to do in Sactown? Leave us a comment and let us know–we’d love to hear from you!
