Lobbying for Love: A New Valentine Tradition

Lobbying for Love

We love our Citizens! In honor of Valentine’s Day, we spent Friday afternoon Lobbying for Love around the Capitol, passing out roses and candy to our fellow Citizens. We also gave out ”random acts of kindness” cards, in hopes that everyone would pay the kindness forward. Examples included: make someone smile, buy a stranger a cup of coffee, leave a nice note on someone’s car, and many more.

Thanks to everyone who came out to see us, and to everyone who committed a random act of kindness. We hope you all had a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

You can see more photos from Lobbying for Love in our Facebook album.

The Citizen Hotel and Joie de Vivre Celebrate Earth Day!

In recognition of Earth Day, The Citizen Hotel and fellow employees of 29 Joie de Vivre hotels in northern California are leaving their single occupancy cars at home and commuting to work by foot, bike, share ride or public transportation today in recognition of Earth Day!

According to Earth Day Network, the global non profit that grew out of the original Earth Day in 1970, leaving a car at home two days a week reduces CO2 emissions by 1,590 pounds a year.

Driving less is just one way we can reduce our carbon footprint,” said Joie de Vivre Senior Vice President Karlene Holloman, who chairs the company’s green committee. “As a company, we are committed to minimizing our impact on the Earth every day of the year. We’re working to incorporate sustainability into our core business operations and looking at everything we do. Later this year we will introduce Lather guestroom bathroom amenities with compostable packaging – a first for a boutique hotel collection.”

Joie de Vivre, California’s largest boutique hotel collection, has a long-standing commitment to preserving the environment and is working toward green certification of all its properties through the Joie de Vivre Green Dreams program. To date, nine of the company’s California hotels have been green certified.

In 2008, Joie de Vivre also introduced the first solar-powered hotel in San Francisco – the 161-room Hotel Carlton. The Hotel Carlton received the 2009 Innovation award for its environmental efforts at the Sixth Annual Hotel Hero Awards in San Francisco last month.
